I actually learned allot from Dr. Phil. I am currently rereading his book The Ultimate Weight Solution The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom. It is an excellent book, I first read it about 6 years ago and even though I did not use his food program I had learned so much about myself and why I embarrass my destructive endeavor, I lost 20 lbs in 2 months, so I know these keys work. Unfortunately that was when I slipped back into that old cycle again and soon had forget things that I had read and slipped into old thought processes and habit.

One of the first things that he talks about that really sticks in my mind is the lie about will power. How many times have you been told that if you just had better will power you would be able to lose weight, exercise and eat healthier. At first this works as we say no to things we really want to eat, but sooner or later we give into the temptation. There have been times when I have been at a social function and someone has said that they did not want a piece of cake or maybe only a very small portion of the dessert. I have thought “Wow, what willpower!” but it was possible that it was not will power at all; they really did not want it. By using the first four steps in his book: Right Thinking, Healing Feelings, A No-Fail Environment and Mastery Over Food and Impulse Eating, we can learn to retrain ourselves so that eating the whole bag of cookies is not a temptation, because you know what you really only want two.
