Would it surprise you to know that, on the average, women live 6 years longer than men? However, a long, healthy life is not guaranteed for all women, with heart disease being the number one threat. To stay healthy, start by eating a healthy balanced diet, engage in some type of physical activity on a daily basis; get regular check ups and find ways to manage the stress in your life. We have all heard before “you are what you eat” so eating a balanced healthy diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, protein, milk, dairy and healthy carbohydrates is a great place to start on the road to a healthy lifestyle. Moderate exercise of 30 minutes a day will help promote better cardio health and keep muscles fit. Find a physical activity that works for you whether it’s brisk walks, a few laps in the pool or perhaps riding a bike. If you haven’t exercised in awhile, start slow and build up. You will be surprised how quickly you will reach your goals one step at a time. The key is to get that heart rate increased for at least 20-30 minutes a day. Tips to manage stress include making sure you get plenty of sleep. Adults should get 7-9 hours a day and most Americans shortchange themselves on the amount of sleep they are actually getting. Balance your lifestyle between work, family and friends. Taking time out to be with family and friends can be a great way to let go of the stress from work. Last but not least, keep that checkup appointment with your doctor, dentist, eye doctor or other health professionals. |
