* Eating and Blood Sugar Levels *

It's very difficult to eat healthy in this day and age. Most people work long hours and some people even work two jobs. There are so many fast food franchises that it's easy to just drive through, and most of these foods do not contain nutrients of any value. Eating this way on a regular basis can cause a spike in your blood sugar level.

It's important to eat meals that are balanced in nutritional value. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains should make up approximately fifty to sixty percent of your meal. They are considered high-fiber carbohydrates and digest slower than foods that are made up of refined carbs. Next, the meal needs to be fifteen to twenty percent protein like meat and fish. Twenty to thirty percent of a meal needs to contain healthy fat which can be found in olive oil and nuts. There are other ways to maintain or lower your blood sugar. There are sugar substitutes that can be used in beverages. There is an herb called stevia that is sweeter than sugar, though it is not yet considered a sweetener like Equal or Sweet-n-Low.

Exercise is also beneficial in lowering blood sugar in the body. Exercising not only burns calories, but also burns off sugar that is stored in your muscles. It is recommended that you shoot for thirty minutes of exercise 5 days a week.

It's extremely important to balance your blood sugar. Too much sugar could lead to the onset of adult diabetes. It is important to discuss diet issues with your doctor or a nutritionist.
