* I Can Do Hard Things! *

When I was at church on Sunday there was a woman that gave a talk that reminded me of something that I already knew, but many times forget. She said that you can do hard things. It made me remember some really hard things that I have overcome.  I was raised in a family where yelling and arguing was common place. Now I am not talking about mean name calling yelling, just sort of always having to be right yelling to get your point across. As I became a wife and mother this became sort of my persona as well, especially if I was stressed or under pressure. My family use to recognize when I was going to go into one of these rants and they would tease me that I was “transforming”. I realized that this constant negative and contentious spirit was not one that I wanted in my home. I decided I would change. This was really hard. I had little rehearsed lines that I would say to myself, or calming songs that I would sing, sometimes I would just go into the garage and literally pray for help. It took along time, but I did change and now I rarely throw temper tantrums that use to be quite common.

This is just one of the really hard things that I have accomplished. Some of the hard things that I have worked through were destructive personality traits, some were consequences for bad choices and some were situations that were thrust upon me. I realize that I am now faced with another really hard thing to do. Change is always hard, changing the way you think and breaking habits that you have had your whole life, those are really hard things to do. The thing about food is that it seems harmless enough, so what if you overeat, or eat unhealthy. I mean it’s not like taking drugs or being an alcoholic. I am realizing that the destruction to your physical and emotional health may be slower, but it is destructive non the less. The good news is that I know that I can change. I know that I can break habits that I have had for 35 years. I know that I can because: I CAN DO HARD THINGS!
