Keep Your Cool Summer Jogging

If you have made the decision to start jogging, whether it is for your health, to lose weight or just to get out and enjoy the summer weather, there are certain precautions you must take in order to be safe.

You might want to do a little research in your area first to get to know the best places to jog. For instance, the surface you choose is one of the most important aspects of jogging. Asphalt and concrete will definitely change in temperature as the day progresses. Those two surfaces will become much hotter in the summer temperatures, as opposed to grass or dirt that will stay relatively cool.

Something we all should know before starting a sport such as jogging is the importance of staying hydrated, but much more water is necessary when jogging in the summer. It is easy to become dehydrated before you know it if you are sweating profusely, so you must be conscious of the need for lots of water.

One of the most important things to know about jogging in hot weather, is that the hot temperatures along with the over-exertion from exercising will cause your body temperature to rise. The body will try to compensate for the rise in its temperature by circulating more blood through the skin, but this process leaves less blood for the muscles, which in turn will cause the heart (which is our most important muscle) to pump harder.

Your attire for jogging in hot weather should be light in weight and color. There are new materials such as micro-fiber now that incorporate mesh for allowing air to circulate. You might also try locating a nice jogging path that is shaded frequently by trees along the way. That will keep you from being in the sun constantly, plus it will create a much more enjoyable atmosphere. If you try jogging and can enjoy some nice scenery at the same time, it will most likely be something you will continue to do.
