The rate of diabetic women in the U.S. is increasing. The key in preventing diabetes in women is to watch what you eat. Women especially need to be careful about his disease because it can affect an unborn child if the mother is carrying or intends to. Eat more salads, foods with not a lot of sugar and nothing that is greasy or high in glucose. Diabetes occurs when your pancreas doesn't make insulin, which breaks down glucose, or sugar.
You also need to keep exercise in your daily routine to keep your metabolism up to speed. Due to the fact you are insulin dependent, your metabolism can't work as well, so it needs extra help. While you are doing all of this, you need to maintain and keep a healthy weight. This helps your body not work as hard.
There are two types of Diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 Diabetes is from destruction of the pancreas, which produces insulin. This is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. When this happens, you will be insulin dependent, meaning you will need to take it daily on your own. You need insulin because it is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and many other food products into energy (metabolism). There is no measure you can take to prevent this type of diabetes, but there has been a vaccine proposed and anti-antibody approaches being investigated.
Type 2 Diabetes, formerly known as "non-insulin dependent," is a metabolism disorder. This decreases your bodies way of breaking down sugar, which your body needs to work. You can often help to manage it by increasing your exercise routine and eat healthy; if you let it go too far, you might need to take medication to help also. This traditionally was recognized mostly in adults, but it is becoming more familiar in children also with the growing obesity rates. There is also no known cure for Type 2 Diabetes, but there is much you can do to manage or even prevent it. Just like for Type 1, eat healthy foods, try to include physical activity in your daily routine while maintaining a healthy weight.
